Steps to apply to the MAT in Spanish program

  1. Visit the Application Portal at https://rutgers.my.site.com/ApplicantPortal/AppPortalCustom.
  2. Choose either:
    • Already have a CommunityID or NetID (proceed to step 4); or
    • Create a new CommunityID if you have never applied to a Rutgers program (proceed to step 3).
  3. Complete the steps that were sent to your email address from the Application Portal.
  4. Start your application by clicking “Apply Now.”
  5. Complete the information that appears on the screen based on your profile. For example: Level of Application is “Graduate.” Applicant Type is “Degree.”
  6. On the next screen, enter your personal information/
  7. Complete your background information as well.
  8. Next, input the program information:
    • Application Type: Degree
    • Degree Type: Masters
    • Area of Study: Education
    • Location/Instructional method: Camden
    • Program Selection: Teacher Education – Spanish (MAT) Camden
    • Term: Select the term you would like to start your program
  9. Continue completing the next three sections: Education History, Financial Information, and Additional Information.
    • Education History will include information about your previous academic institutions
    • Financial Information is necessary if you want to opt in to scholarships or if you already have scholarships
    • Additional Information includes miscellaneous information not already provided
  10. You will now reach the two requirements for this application: Personal Statement and Recommendations.
    • You must upload TWO personal statements, one in English and one in Spanish. You can upload the statement in different formats, but please make sure you provide it in both languages.
    • You must have TWO letters of recommendation. One recommendation should be from an academic source, such as a professor or instructor who can speak about your academic abilities. To have these letters properly submitted through the application, you must provide the names and email addresses of your recommenders. They will then automatically receive a request to upload their recommendation letters to the system. You do not upload these letters.
  11. Review your application and select “Yes” from the dropdown menu next to the question: “I agree to the above statement and certify my application information is correct and complete.”

CONGRATULATIONS! If you have uploaded all relevant materials and filled out all the required information, your application is now submitted.

If you’re not a Rutgers alumnus or student, this is the time to pay the application fee that will grant the completion and review of your application.
